Semantic Differential: what your audience thinks, unvarnished
Find out where your brand, product or experience sits.
The semantic differential measures perception and attitude on a scale between two opposing extremes — revealing nuance that yes/no questions or star ratings never capture.

The problem
Direct questions like "are you satisfied?" capture very little — the respondent simplifies. The semantic differential reveals how they actually perceive attributes such as quality, ease or modernity in your brand.
- No idea how the customer actually perceives your brand
- Star or score surveys lose the nuance of perception
- Attributes like "modern", "reliable" or "easy" are hard to measure
- Difficulty comparing perception before and after a change
- Brand positioning decided on gut feel, without data
How Loyvox solves it
On Loyvox the semantic differential is a native question type: you define the two opposites (e.g. Bad × Good, Slow × Fast), pick the scale (5 or 7 points) and the respondent places their perception. Results appear as visual averages in real time.

Frequently asked questions
What is the semantic differential?+
It is an attitude measurement technique created by Charles Osgood. It presents pairs of opposing adjectives on a scale (e.g. Bad × Good) and asks the respondent to mark where they perceive the thing being rated.
When should I use a semantic differential instead of stars?+
Use it when you want to measure specific perception attributes (modern, reliable, easy) rather than overall satisfaction. Stars measure a score; the differential measures positioning.
How many pairs of opposites should I use?+
Three to seven pairs is ideal so the respondent does not tire. More than ten pairs cuts the response rate significantly.
Can I compare before and after a change?+
Yes. Run the same survey before and after the change (new product, new campaign, redesign) and compare the perception averages on the dashboard.
Is it free?+
Yes, you create surveys with a semantic differential on the Loyvox free plan.
